Catherine Rive  The Language of Photography Photo-Walks Gallery

Children and their families have been exploring their environments across London through photography.

As part of the photography project, parents and carers are invited to join their children in taking a photo-walk to explore their local community through photography. Photo-walks begin at the schools, the aim of the photo-walk is go at the child's pace allowing them to pause and photograph what interests them

The children’s photographs reveal their awareness of their environment and their ability to capture the beauty within it. On the walks, they make connections with their local community which creates a sense of belonging and ownership. It is important that young children build relationships with their community and develop empathy for the world around them. This is fundamental to their role as future citizens and caretakers of the planet.

Sharing this magic with the community, banners of the children's photographs are on display on buildings, photo trails have been created leaving the children's photographs back in-situ. Some of the children's photographs have been exhibited locally and internationally at the Loris Malaguzi Centre Italy, The Childrens International Photo Biennale India, The Polka Theatre and community venues across London.
